What is EMDG?

The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) program helps Australian businesses grow their exports in international markets. These grants encourage small to medium enterprises to market and promote their goods and services globally.

EMDG provides eligible businesses with grants for 50% of overseas marketing expenses up to a variable cap, the value of which is determined by program demand. It is not a competitive grant, so eligible applicants spending money on international promotion will receive a grant.

What can you claim?

Here are the eligible expenses:

Advertising (Facebook, Instagram, Google, Influencers, Amazon, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)	Overseas Representatives
Marketing Consultants / PR Agencies	Patent & Trademark Registration
Trade Fairs	Free Samples
Overseas Travel	Overseas Buyers

Who is eligible?

To be eligible you must:

Have a turnover of less than $20 million for financial year 2020–21	Have an Australian Business Number.
Be an Australian person as per the EMDG Rules 2021	A ‘designated connection’ to the product or service you are exporting
